Women’s golf nights start June 18

ROSEBURG, Ore. – Women can get back in the swing of things when Roseburg Parks and Recreation offers “Just for Fun” golf on Wednesday nights this summer – with mini-lessons offered for the first time this year.

Regular participants will note that the recreational program is changing from Monday to Wednesday nights. Starting Wednesday, June 18, Parks and Rec offers women five chances to play golf and make new friends every other week at Stewart Park Golf Course, 1005 N.W. Stewart Parkway in Roseburg.

This year, a golf course pro will offer group mini-lessons at 5 p.m. each night. Game play begins at 5:30 p.m. No pre-registration is needed, but check in at the golf course desk by 4:50 p.m. if you want to take the mini-lesson and by 5:20 p.m. if you just want to play golf.

You must bring your own clubs, but you don’t have to be an expert golfer to come enjoy a round of golf, said Roseburg Parks and Recreation Coordinator Tracy David.

“We run a casual, scramble-style golf night where ladies use each other’s best shots to complete each hole,” said David. “You get to practice your swings all night and the team works together to make it to the green. It is such a fun and positive environment.”

The recreational program will mix ladies together in different groups each week so you’ll have opportunities to meet and play with others at the nine-hole course. You can be placed in a group or bring a foursome of women who golf together.

Evening golf will be held on June 18; July 2, 16 and 30; and Aug. 13. Participants can play each night or whichever nights fit their schedule.

Players need their own golf clubs and basic knowledge about how to play golf. A $20-a-night fee covers a greens fee, recreation fee, cart rental and mini-lesson.

“We’ve wanted to add an instructional element to this program for some time now, and I think the ladies are really going to enjoy learning a new skill each week,” David added.
