Adult Summer Reading Program to start
ROSEBURG, Ore. – Adults are invited to participate in Roseburg Public Library’s Summer Reading Program for fun and prizes.
The program, which runs from Sunday, June 1, through Saturday, Aug. 23, is made possible by the Friends of the Roseburg Public Library. A Roseburg Public Library card is not required to participate.
Based on the results of a survey of local readers, library staff again have a reading log with 30 prompts to guide participants. There are seven opportunities to read “a book of your choice” to provide readers some flexibility, and specific prompts include “a famous writer’s first book” and “a book that spans multiple decades.”
For each category completed, readers will be entered into a random prize drawing for a one-year membership to the YMCA of Douglas County.
Reading logs will be available at the library and on the library’s Summer Reading Program webpage at www.roseburgpubliclibrary.org. Logs must be returned in person to the library or emailed to library@roseburgor.gov by 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, to be eligible for prizes.
It is not necessary to complete the entire log. Super readers who fill in at least 28 of the 30 categories may work on a second log. Audiobooks, physical books and electronic books may be counted.
For every five books completed on the reading log, patrons may choose a free book from the library’s giveaway cart, which is stocked with advanced reader copies of new, hot titles and gently used donations. Participants may stop at the front desk with their logs, and staff will wheel out the cart to browse available titles.
Additionally, patrons may submit book reviews for a chance to win one of eight prizes displayed in the library’s lobby display case. Prizes include items for book lovers and gift cards to local businesses. Each review corresponds to one entry, and readers will be able to indicate which prize drawing they wish to enter.
Reviews may be adapted by library staff for the “Patron Picks” display in the main part of the library and the library’s weekly online newsletter. Reviewers’ first names will be shared.
Finally, the library will have a bonus opportunity every month to win a $25 gift card to a business located in Roseburg. Information about the month’s activity will be posted in the middle of June, July and August at the library and on the library’s website, Facebook page at www.facebook.com/roseburglibrary and weekly e-newsletter. Register for the newsletter on the library’s website. Click “Sign up for the library’s weekly newsletter” to get started.
