ROSEBURG, Ore. – An overnight stormwater improvement project designed to increase capacity will start on a four-block stretch of West Harvard Avenue on Monday, Aug. 4.
Overnight traffic will be reduced to one lane in both directions from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays on Harvard Avenue from Ballf Street to Umpqua Street. Storm pipe installation will take place in the evening and overnight, and will not impact daytime commutes.
Detours will be set up to route vehicles around the nighttime work zone until the project is completed in October, according to the Roseburg Public Works Department.
Storm drainage pipes are being replaced with about 1,050 linear feet of 30-inch-diameter storm pipe and 300 linear feet of 12-inch-diameter storm pipe so the system can handle more stormwater. The work also will install four new storm manholes and replace six storm drain inlets and two sidewalk ramps to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The 2011 Roseburg Storm Water Master Plan identified the area west of Interstate 5 and east of Keady Court as a problem area where the storm system is under capacity.
“Basically, we’re just following the recommendations of the storm study that was completed in 2011 to upsize and improve the capacity of the storm system so it can handle more water,” said City Engineer Daryn Anderson.
The City has been upgrading that part of the system in phases since 2014 after storm drainage pipes were upgraded on Ballf and Harrison streets.
The City appreciates the public’s understanding and patience throughout the project. For more information, contact the Roseburg Public Works Department at 541-492-6730 or pwd@roseburgor.gov.
