Free popsicles celebrate parks

RoseburgAdmin

ROSEBURG, Ore. – Kids can enjoy a cool, sweet treat on the City on Wednesdays in July to celebrate National Park and Recreation Month.

Roseburg Parks and Recreation staff will give out free popsicles to kids near the Fir Grove Park Splash Pad from 2 to 3 p.m. every Wednesday this month.

The frozen confections are being given away to honor the 40th anniversary of National Park and Recreation Month, whose “Build Together, Play Together” theme this year recognizes more than 160,000 park and recreation professionals working full-time to maintain parks throughout the country – along with hundreds of thousands of part-time and seasonal workers and volunteers.

“All the kids who are in the area can get a popsicle,” said Roseburg Parks and Recreation Coordinator Tracy David. “We just want to thank the kids and community for enjoying our parks.”

Parks staff encourage local residents to spend the entire month enjoying Roseburg’s beautiful parks. To help you get out there, Parks staff will post a new idea to get you into a park every day of the month – 31 ideas in all.

Today’s Tip #1: Bike ride along the Umpqua River Trail!

This scenic multiuse path meanders along parts of the South Umpqua River and connects the Stewart Park Natural Area to Stewart Park, Riverfront Park, Gaddis Park and Fir Grove Park. Learn more about the Umpqua River Trail or download the trail map.

For more ideas, check out Roseburg Parks and Recreation’s Facebook page or City Administration’s Facebook page each day. And get out there!
